Democrats haven’t “given” anyone a damn thing. Democrats have *reluctantly* registered in law victories won by popular movements. Democrats would have been happy to leave segregation in place forever if the civil rights movement hadn’t forced their hands. Same with women’s rights, gay rights, etc.
