Valve is doing a great job building a true gaming ecosystem with a unified OS that spans multiple devices.
If they lean into retail expansion and ramp up marketing, they could really break out of the niche space they currently occupy in hardware and compete with the big 3.

I think the main audience for the Steam Cube is gonna be people who have a large steam library but haven't upgraded their PC since like 2017. The actual PC market is a nightmare right now and something that is affordable and can handle upper middle tier games acceptably is an easy sell

There's also a -lot- of these people outside the anglosphere/japan where console gaming has less of a grip anyway. I don't think it's gonna meaningfully cut into the margins of the PS5/Switch 2 but the it'll probably still prompt a response since the Steam Deck did despite selling diddly dick

If Square Enix released a similar '3D Platformer that looks like Kingdom Hearts and you do light crafting' game it'd go quadruple platinum, I assume there were some angry meetings when the game stealing their whole company's flow hit 20m players almost instantly
