Agree with every word of this

We've gone from 9% of social care staff coming from outside the UK and EEA in 2021/22 to almost 25% in 2024/25

The govt has no near-term replacement

It means either:
1) staffing shortages or
2) councils spending far more to attract staff, with no extra funding

Increasingly convinced, having had full contact with all aspects around it for the last year or so, that until social care is properly financed it will be a massive drag on employment and productivity as relatives spend endless hours in practical caring and administrative support.

Ahead of today's budget our director, Hannah Rich, has written for Mainstream about how we need the moral courage in government to make decisions like ending the two child benefit limit simply because they’re the right thing to do.

"People who attend church or identify with a Christian tradition are not systematically more (or less) nativist, authoritarian or populist than their secular counterparts. Conversely, people who hold nativist and authoritarian views are often also Islamophobes, and vice versa." 👏 @kai-arzheimer.com
Islamophobia in Western Europe is not driven by religiosity
Are Christians more likely to be Islamophobic than other citizens in Europe? New research finds European Islamophobia has no link to a person’s religiosity.

Lib Dem Tim Farron MP: "I'm a proud patriot, but I am no nationalist...You can tell the difference.

"Patriots love their country. Nationalists hate their neighbours. I am a patriot."

He says he's ashamed racists have tried to steal the flag.

Farron hits out at the "poison of nationalism".

Appalling that Policy Exchange’s offices were violently attacked last night - just the latest in a lengthy series of such intimidatory attacks targeted at think tanks and campaign groups, doing perfectly legitimate work that is part of our democratic process.

I’ll address these issues as a Christian, not a news reporter.
It’s hard at present for Christians, impelled by biblical injunctions to be kind to the stranger, not to feel alienated by the rhetoric on all sides about immigrants.
Krish Kandiah’s words strike me as an authentic Christian response.

127/ British election night coverage needs to go completely back to the drawing board. It has become a pointless mess of endless talking heads, with results and analysis seemingly seen as an inconvenient side show. You have most of the best psephologists in the country working with you – use them!

Memo to the Chancellor: yes we'd like to spend more of the money we earn, yes we'd like to invest in British stocks, too. But, as we see the spiralling costs of social care for those we love in the generation above, we are saving not just for our pensions but for our future care costs too.

🎥 There are some positive things in there around political donations... But these measures ignore the elephant in the room... the growing reliance of political parties on a small number of wealthy backers and the corrupting influence of big money in politics.

Keir Starmer looks quite annoyed when questioned about the policy dilemmas. And I think that's a problem. It's hard to win people over if you look frustrated. Blair seemed to relish those opportunities, even when hostile. He saw it as the chance to persuade. He looked more positive. That counts.

The most glaring omission from our politics today are voices in elected office describing the necessary trade offs for policy decisions and then using persuasive argument to win the electorate over to their view. It's sadly lacking and we are paying the price for lack of meaningful discussion.

In the last few days I have been in out of both care home and hospital settings where a loved one is being treated and looked after by the products of a 'squalid experiment in open borders.' Lovely.

"The Quiet Revival" survey indicates a revival of Christianity, with congregations up in the last four years from 8 to 12 per cent, a growth largely fuelled by Gen Z. The findings buck the trend of reported decline among the main denominations and our panel discuss the findings: ow.ly/Yyoo50VxjgY
