Yes but tbc just because the price is going to rise a lot if Iran blocks the straits, not because of actual shortages. The US is oil independent but not price immune as we learned in the spring of 2022. East Asia is reliant on oil from KSA, Iran, etc. and they’re a huge market.

I don’t know who they really expect to go to work for the US federal government as a new hire.

Assuming a 22% federal bracket, add in 7.65% for FICA, 5% for TSP match, 14.4% as a FERS contribution, and then state taxes and FEHB premiums on top of that and over half of their paycheck would be gone.
