In mine the MC chooses not to speak first because he ranks lower than the side char / partial-antag who speaks first (not counting the prologue). The side char plays an important part in the story, but they do die about 1/3 in.

It depends. For copy editing it can be $0.004-6 and for line editing it's $0.006-10. These are below EFA rates but I also know it's hard for indies to cough up money.
