Just saw JAY KELLY at a theater that I last visited when it was showing (first-run) Woody Allen’s ANOTHER WOMAN. Now heading to see HAMNET at a theater I’m pretty sure I haven’t been to since JOHNNY HANDSOME.

Rewatching THE THIRD GENERATION and this is definitely my favorite Udo look.

Not sure why they’re not calling this AI Zero but if it’s the same nightmare slop minus all the calories then count me in!

Not with a bang but a whimper, Charlie Brown.

“Have you got a boffo ending for this four-hour miniseries, Lars?”

“Yes. The pregnant character with the bizarre ultrasounds finally gives birth.”

“Oh. Okay, I suppose that’s—“

“To a fully grown Udo Kier.”

“…”

Not sure why we’re doing April Fools in November but I’m not falling for “Marjorie Taylor Greene announces she’ll resign after Trump called her a traitor” and “Trump beams at and fawns over Mamdani in first meeting as if he’s the son Trump never had.”

How many Scorsese profiles pegged to his next major film will be headlined “Marty Supreme”? 100% or just 95%?

And those women are Bella Abzug, Corin Tucker and Flo from Progressive.

The very first review of FOR GOOD I saw (written by a longtime friend) proclaimed it superior to the first half, and all the reviews I’ve seen since are like youtu.be/i0GW0Vnr9Yc?...

I’m fascinated by how instantly identifiable AI writing is. Has a prose style/rhythm no less distinct than my own.

This continues to be my favorite type of retro. Films that have nothing in common apart from a word in the title.

Does this need to be up 24 hours before I can report Victor missing?
apropos nothing in particular, Carl-Theodor Dreyer sucks and Lars Von Trier is a hack

There’s a non-zero chance that at some point I simply stop engaging with anything produced after 2019 or so. Spend the rest of my life entirely living in the past.

LEFT HANDED GIRL opened today so naturally I’ve been constantly singing the title in an exaggerated Jeff Mangum nasal twang to the tune of “Two-Headed Boy.”

Briefly thought the pic on this Onion headline was way off then realized Oh, I’m that old, that is what people see when they look at me.

Scheduled a court date for a correctable traffic citation and got to see a bunch of other cases adjudicated prior to my own. Unless avoiding court is worth like $100-200 to you, go for anything. Every single fine got substantially reduced, irrespective of disposition. Literally all of them.

Don’t suppose there’s any way to move IMDB’s mobile search bar back to the top? (I’ll get used to it but right now it’s driving me nuts.)

Want to know how my thoughts on movies come across when I can’t devote a ludicrous amount of time and energy to carefully crafting every word? Here’s your chance!

Was especially happy to talk about SICK, one of the greatest documentaries ever made, which rarely gets mentioned nowadays.
We celebrate our 100th episode with film critic Mike D'Angelo (@gemko.bsky.social), who joins us to discuss Kirby Dick's heart-rending documentary SICK: THE LIFE AND DEATH OF BOB FLANAGAN, SUPERMASOCHIST, and Marina de Van's 2002 body-horror drama IN MY SKIN.

Let’s just list the Nakadai films I own:

Seven Samurai
Yojimbo
Harakiri
High and Low
Kwaidan
The Sword of Doom
Samurai Rebellion
Ran

Gotta think that’s a sizable % of my favorite Japanese films period. What a career. (And RAN was the first Japanese movie I ever saw, so he was iconic for me.)

SCHUMER: America is in the midst of a Republican-made health care crisis—a crisis so severe, so urgent, and so devastating for American families that I cannot support a continuing resolution that fails to address it. I am voting NO.
