Decided to make room for Kathleen Collins’ Losing Ground in my @letterboxd.social Four Favorites because it’s a movie that really touched me at a pivotal time in my life and I’m always thinking about it and I just want more people to watch it.

when you love marginalized filmmakers getting rediscovered, but also just read a list of “best musicals” that totally left out Vincente Minnelli.

”I’ve Heard the Mermaids Singing” is a new favorite. I love it because I loved the main character played by Sheila McCarthy - curious, on the outside looking in, sensitive to rejection, and, at the end of the day, a very creative soul. Watched in January and haven’t shut up since.

A lot of the time, I’m like “what a scary time to have kids,” but then my six year-old comes home telling me they watched a short film at school about a girl “who doesn’t talk” like his little brother and I am grateful to raise my boys in a time when they can see their stories onscreen.

Rose Byrne’s got ‘If I Had Legs‘ in theaters, Lorene Scafaria’s got ‘I Love LA’ on HBO Max, and if you want more of both, I recommend ‘The Meddler’! Very sweet and very different from their current projects, but Sarandon’s character even LIVES at the Grove, it’s iconic. 😭😂
