Dexamfetamine is the shortacting version and is only available in 5mg tablets.41 It contains the active ingredient dextroamphetamine, which is only one part of the different components that make up amphetamine.42 Lisdexamfetamine, sold in New Zealand under the brand name Vyvanse, is an inactive prodrug of dexamfetamine, meaning it is broken down into dextroamphetamine throughout the day, making it the long-acting version.43 However, these are much more likely to count as having a “substantially similar chemical structure” to amphetamine under the Bill’s definition. "
