GIS is for the people 🌎✌️

The people who think LLMs are intelligent are the same people who would run out of a movie theater when they see a train coming towards them.

Not only is geoCML v4.0 out today, but Tabor v4.0 is also available to the public! This Tabor update includes support for temporal data types as well as domain values (i.e. coded value domains in ArcGIS).

With geoCML v4.0, it's never been easier to boot up a geoCML instance. We have implemented an install script that can be downloaded an run with a single command. With this script, you can deploy a geoCML instance in minutes. We have also updated our hosted containers so they are production ready!

Let's start with geoCML v4.0. This is the biggest release of geoCML ever. It features several UI changes, quality of life updates, quantitative dashboards on geoCML Server Portal, and support for rasters/custom fonts/QGIS plugins.

You can read the full change log here: github.com/geoCML/geocm...

Not sure what Tabor is?

Tabor is a command line utility that allows you to define and create PostGIS database schemas from an easy to read, maintainable YAML file.

The Tabor v0.3.1 patch release is out now! If you're running geoCML v0.3.1, you'll automatically get the update after redeploying the geoCML Task Scheduler container.

For those using indev geoCML v4.0, pull from main or update the gTS make file to point to Tabor v0.3.1. Redeploy, and you're set!

lol come on Google… if you’re not going to give me a REAL map, at least put a pin down so I know I’m not just staring at a big blue rectangle.

I have some good news, and I have some bad news. The bad news is that the geoCML v4.0 release is getting pushed back from March to July 2025. The GOOD NEWS is that there are some exciting changes in the release plan that I think you’ll all enjoy.

This is going to be a huge release, I’m so excited!

Maybe there is something to this whole groundhog thing… Portland is forecasted for snow this week which, if you’ve ever been to Portland in the Winter, means that the entire city is about to shut down because the city doesn’t treat the roads 😅

Modular dashboards are coming to geoCML Server Portal with the upcoming 4.0 release! Here's a little teaser of how they look. #gischat

When I backup data from PostGIS to my recovery drive, I use this convention:

<epoch_timestamp_dir>/data:<schema_name>.<table_name>.csv

For database schema definitions, I use:

<epoch_timestamp_dir>/<db_name>.tabor

… then I put all of my rasters in the <epoch_timestamp_dir>/rasters/ directory

One of my favorite things about geoCML deployments are that I can use QGIS on any device, including my iPad.

Over many years, I've been observing trends in how social media platforms mature.

From my perspective, Bluesky is currently at Phase 3, but will move rapidly into Phase 4.

Sites like Facebook and X are already at Phase 4. In my opinion, evolving into Phase 4 is inevitable for any social platform.
