I really hope you enjoy using the geoCML Platform. I am incredibly proud to be able to bring enterprise GIS out of the proprietary software paradigm and into the hands of users around the world, free of charge.

There's so much happening over here at The geoCML Project... so much, in fact, that I am not able to talk about everything in this post. I encourage you to check out our documentation site for a more comprehensive look at the geoCML Platform's capabilities: geocml.github.io/docs/

Not only is geoCML v4.0 out today, but Tabor v4.0 is also available to the public! This Tabor update includes support for temporal data types as well as domain values (i.e. coded value domains in ArcGIS).

With geoCML v4.0, it's never been easier to boot up a geoCML instance. We have implemented an install script that can be downloaded an run with a single command. With this script, you can deploy a geoCML instance in minutes. We have also updated our hosted containers so they are production ready!

Let's start with geoCML v4.0. This is the biggest release of geoCML ever. It features several UI changes, quality of life updates, quantitative dashboards on geoCML Server Portal, and support for rasters/custom fonts/QGIS plugins.

You can read the full change log here: github.com/geoCML/geocm...

I want to dynamically render and cache tiles generated from a PostGIS database. ST_AsMVT seems to be the most common approach, but ideally like my tiles to be rasters. I have a Rust backend that is doing the serverside logic, so I may be able to convert the vector data to an image that way.

Just to clarify: I am not trying to make an OSM tile server.

This trend is disturbing; We’re consuming AI generated content and then relying on AI to explain (poorly) what the content is about. Critical thinking has been going the way of the dodo for years… but this is a very rapid escalation.

It should alarm every single one of you.

I’m with you here—I have bad eye health and light mode tends to be more legible to me. That said, I get eye strain if I use it for too long.

Not sure what Tabor is?

Tabor is a command line utility that allows you to define and create PostGIS database schemas from an easy to read, maintainable YAML file.

In other news! I found a critical bug in Tabor v0.3.0 today and I'm going to be prioritizing a patch release for that. Should be finished shortly.

If you just need a simple world map, you can type “world” into the coordinates text box. Quick and easy, no plugins required (:
