This is a town hall in a Trump +20 district in Nebraska. If this isn’t a guide to Dems on what to focus in the midterms, how to capture back popular support, I don’t know what is

I don't think there is any beyond GR-physics here, so I don't understand how their treatment of inhomogeneities can be so significantly different from numerical simulations or perturbation on an FRW background.

My first December summer solstice. In the northern hemisphere, this was my fav day of the year because it meant that the days will lengthen from now on. Should it be my least fav day now that I’m in Australia?

Bluesky : how dare you scrape our data and posts without explicit permission. This is an outrage and we will destroy you

Also bluesky: aww this content scraper takes our data and posts without explicit permission, but creates some cutesy AI stuff. Isn’t this great? 🙃

No LIGO (and our Italian and Japanese counterpart detectors Virgo and KAGRA) is not always on. We are slowly building up to our design sensitivity. So we observe and detect for few months to a year and then the detectors are taken offline for upgrades. So when we come back we are more sensitive.

We've found quite a few more. In our latest careful analysis of the data, up until the third observing run, we found ~90 or so of these events (depends a little on how you define detection). Here is a nice visualization of the masses of the black holes and neutron stars that we have detected.

Howdy all, astronomer and gravitational wave scientist from Chicago here! I’m currently a postdoc at Northwestern. Here’s a photo of me in a protective “bunny suit” about to go into the laser room at the LIGO Hanford observatory!
