Proud Titahi Bay local and Councillor for the Onepoto Ward, Porirua City Council. Authorised by Geoff Hayward, 7 Richard St, Titahi Bay.
I watched some particularly toxic tactics play out on the campaign trail (not in my race) and I was reminded of this...

It was the mahi of @geoffhayward.bsky.social and I that got every council in the region to back a water charter to govern Wellington Water's replacement, but the job's not done yet:

FYI juror fees have not been increased since 2004 (yes 21 years ago). The maximum payable is $127 for more than 3 hours and beyond 9 pm.

The usual daily rate is $62 for more than 3 hours but not beyond 6 pm.

Jury duty is obviously nowhere near as important as being on a board. 🤬

I once read an article about a decade ago about the (perhaps premature) aftermath of the so called "Arab Spring". There was an anecdote from a local political leader that the biggest lesson he had was to drop milk from his coffee as they spent spent more time talking with people...

Today at #Norths old timers day, we're still missing our uso Jerry Collins 10 years on.

He wasn't just a stalwart of club, province and country.

He is a brother of #Porirua & you continue to inspire.

Thank you Frank and the whānau for sharing him again with us today.

Unpopular opinion maybe but hey NZ, we should *not* in fact make it illegal to record audio of someone without their consent. There are people in power up to no good for whom this would be Christmas.

We *should* however add audio to our existing laws about unconsented intimate recordings.

In framing the political right would understand:

When government legislates so as to remove money from workers in order to pay for its policy agenda they would typically call it a tax hike.

In everything but name they're levying a targeted tax rise on those who work in jobs dominated by women.
"Savings we have delivered from pay equity" is actually "money stolen from women". Its money the government had acknowledged it would have had to pay out, then decided that it just wouldn't.

National's budget is basically a mass-robbery.

It's crazy that the Government has been allowed to claim they're "injecting" an "extra" half billion dollars into the film industry.

They haven't introduced any new funding or changed existing options. They've just written a new number in the spot for what they expect the existing rebate to cost.
Budget 2025: Half-billion-dollar boost for film industry
While industry incentives aren't the favoured approach, Willis said they were necessary to compete with the likes of Australia, Canada, and the United Kingdom.

Bob Jones was a product of his time, and his passing is a checkpoint for the historians to one day write about his impact on New Zealand politics and popular culture.

I wanted to share two anecdotes that were the only times I interacted with the joker.

When the National Government says councils need to "do the basics and do them brilliantly" on things like pipes and roads, you have to follow through and pay your fair share.

Talk is cheap: You can't be trusted if you say one thing and then do the opposite.

There is a proverb that goes "look backwards while walking into the future."

This government has decided to walk backwards and look backwards on Māori wards.

They are therefore looking up their own backsides.

This isn't prudent management.

It's theft from the next generation.

And the one here now.
Nicotine Willis plans to use the Climate Emergency Response Fund (a fund setup to help pay for things like flood damage and cyclones, things like the fancy bridge Luxon is so proud of and had nothing to do with) to pay for her tax cuts for landlords.

Dear gods.

So, let me get this straight.

The PM is appointing a guy who in 2017 refused to say there was a housing crisis in New Zealand, the responsibility to review the government agency tasked with *checks notes* creating housing.
