When I trained as a journalist we really had it drummed into us that there was no room for opinion, even implied, in news reporting, but I do like the idea of being able to insert stuff like ‘(if you can _imagine_)’

I hear you but there are definitely places who decide that any purchase is a subscription 😣 (A couple of online retailers send me unsolicited things in the actual post!!)

I know it’s not the point but as a Brit, I initially parsed “OH” as an exclamation and thought aviation updates were way more lyrical than I could’ve imagined.

Yes to be clear, my comment was about the rhetoric of difficult decisions. I’m a low enough earner to be only minimally impacted by this budget. Given the state of the front pages today, however, it’s clear that Reeves might as well have gone much harder on the rich and actually merited the reaction

Much as I’m loving the condescension, I’m not going to waste time worrying about hypothetical people moving from one expensive house to another because they’ve not left themselves any space to absorb an additional running cost that’s less than 1% of the value of their home.

Well yes it is easy because most of us don’t have the kind of wealth or assets to need to worry about this, and that’s the bloody point. Moving from a £1.5m home to a £1m home? Oh no! What horror!
