Mostly-retired private sector anthropologist, "overeducated" (Penn, NYU, Chicago), spent years in Brazil and Japan. Once voted for a Communist and a Republican on the same day. I like taking pictures of abandoned road signs.
I think people used to call that "the old college try".

I have fair confidence in this forward-looking statement: "AI *could* turn seemingly intelligent men into raving, opportunistic, self-serving assholes when they perceive it as a profit opportunity".

As do cakes! Italian pizza chiena, or pizza rustica, looks cakey by any imaginable criterion, and a typical recipe calls for a pound of salami and a pound of savory cheese plus some hard-boiled eggs. NB: If that's too much matter out place, it may not qualify for platonic status.

It's definitely going into the rotation.

I'd hate to be the person who has to scrub the inside of his shirt collars.

He could start with V.A.C. Gatrell's "The Hanging Tree: Execution and the English People, 1770-1868", for historical perspective on the inverse correlation between public execution and public order. But why expect a fatuous boor to care about the past?

I think Glenn Gould would've approved. And, unironically, Michael Snow too.

ok now amplify that by two orders of magnitude and you will actually have an effect on housing costs. Until then, it's PR fluff, which you, Gov. Newsom, are too good at.

The American oligarchs would quickly shrink and then disappear if we stopped giving them our money and our data.

If know-it-all Lonsdale bothers to read anything of substance, he should look at V.A.C. Gatrell's "The Hanging Tree: Execution and the English People, 1770-1868" where he'll learn that public executions are *counterproductive* to public order.

Whatever else is driving him on this "peace" obsession, I think one element is his fear of impending death. He's trying to make a deal with God to get into heaven and hopes the peacemaker BS will fool the almighty just enough.

Ah! another opportunity to bring out this anonymous classic from Slashdot in 2003:

Partial backstory: camera hidden in eyeglasses was used by market researchers 15 or more years ago to do bogus ethnographic research, and the technology was quickly adopted by even less scrupulous men to record POV porn.

Perhaps true, but in the case of a trivial image like this I spurn its kitsch intent, setting, hyper-idealized characters and everything it may stand for in people's imaginations, regardless of who or what made it. To reject shit as shit a priori can make the anxious guessing game less relevant.
