Not keen on Butcher's Aprons

Will follow back kindred souls but not a given.

I block bigots, brexiteers, personal abusers, unsolicited DMs, begging.

Still hate Thatcher.

Vote:
Scotland = SNP
England = Green
Wales= PC
NI = SF
✔️

Take off your hat, kick off your shoes, I know you ain't going anywhere...
December 6, 2025 at 9:49 PM
Yh. Still planning at the moment but we think we might take the train across from one side to other. People have advised that there are not too many "tourist spots" in the middle so we can just gaze at scenery from the comfort of a train. TBH quite happy that I don't have to drive quite so far now!😜

I'll give it six weeks...

Many of us have.
December 4, 2025 at 11:41 AM
I'm with you - we cancelled a planned (for this year) £15k retirement trip along Route 66 as soon as Trump was elected. Canada and Australia will now get our Tourist spend in 2026 instead

However in the UK, we should not be too smug; "Trump Mini-Me" Farage is looking like the next Prime Minister.
December 4, 2025 at 11:41 AM
I suspect USA will do nothing.

Thousands of kids have literally been shot in schools but still US allows gun-ownership.

However in UK we do not look on smugly but with fear. The old adage that America sneezes and six months later the UK catches a cold comes to mind.

Fascism will come to us too.

Absolutely nothing like Nazi Germany.

I don't know Acorn but I think Britbox is mostly old shows isn't it?

Certainly UK always used to have many more smokers than USA and on my first trip in 1976 when smoking was common-place in UK I met only a handful in US

UK has changed a lot since then; for one thing Blair banned smoking in pubs.
December 2, 2025 at 8:01 PM
As an ex smoker though I notice how many of the actors In films where they do smoke they don't actually know how to smoke (or even properly hold) a cigarette the correct way.

I've not smoked for 45+ years but I could hold one and take a drag in the right way immediately. 😜

Vape though? No idea!🤦‍♂️
December 2, 2025 at 12:11 PM
I guess so.

Certainly a lot of smoking in the olders shows but I can't think of the last time I saw a character smoking (although I think some did in "Industry" - which was a joint UK/US production).

I could be wrong but I certainly don't think any do in the "soaps"

2025:
US smoking rate 23.6%
UK smoking rate 12.5%

A bit like the myth around British teeth; WHO found overall they were actually healthier than Americans. Not necessarily straighter or whiter but healthier

Drinking however... Guilty. We're all pissheads.

Slightly unfair to blame "London" for that.

Houses of Westminster obviously complete bastards but London's economy itself subsidises the rest of the UK.

That's a bit like blaming the whole of Scotland for some pissed-up Rangers fan who urinates on your car.
December 2, 2025 at 12:45 AM
Yh but the flip side is that we don't have a constitution at all.

Some Magna Carta bullshit from 13th century but that only covered rights for Earls and Lords.

The Man on the Clapham Omnibus has no such written protection.

Still on balance, you're probably right; it is nice.😜

Just in case anyone saw my reply post. I've deleted it.

I should not have resorted to personal comments for cheap laughs. I consider myself better than that. Apologies.

If you didn't see then well, just carry on ignoring me anyway. 😜

Seemingly that would depend on if he is white or not.
December 1, 2025 at 10:43 PM
It's funny how the young people who are LEAVING the UK in large number were last week reported not as "fighting-age men" but a "brain drain" and our "best talent".

What could the difference be I wonder?
December 1, 2025 at 10:42 PM
Of course it was not democratic. Hence the "sic" in brackets.
December 1, 2025 at 9:14 PM
and as for the Irish GOVERNMENT saying anything...

Change is thankfully coming there too. I predict the vote will happen within the next ten years - maybe even sooner.
December 1, 2025 at 9:13 PM
Sorry; I was not suggesting you were. I'm saying that is where the hysteria is.

Of course there are SOME extremists on both sides but most of the pro-unity people I encounter realise this has to be an ordered/respectful transition. This cannot (and will not) simply be "payback" for the last century
December 1, 2025 at 9:13 PM
Reform voters don't see themselves as far right.

Seriously though we'll probably have to disagree on this, I think Marr is just a client journalist.
December 1, 2025 at 9:04 PM
Thank you.

And THIS is why Bluesky is better than "the other place"😜
