Since Sarah Kendzior’s account has been restored for a “death threat”- I’m wondering why Link’s hasn’t… does Bluesky take alleged threats against their CEO more seriously than ones against other people? Will Patton Oswalt also have a full account ban?

That half of it I totally agree with. It’s the murky abuse of the “wish ill on someone” half that I have objections about in both policy and in selective implementation.
Probably an unpopular opinion but “don’t type death threats even jokingly, yes that means you” seems to be one of the few real Bluesky rules and not something I personally struggle with.

"taking jobs from Americans" really gives away the game. This guy just hates immigrants and thinks they don't belong here, and can be treated as sub-humans.
Bovino: "Whether they were criminals or individuals that were taking jobs from Americans -- you name it, that's what they were doing. And I'll tell you what's gonna happen. We're gonna go even harder on the streets. If he releases those 650, we're gonna apprehend 1,650 on the streets of Chicago."

Maybe to prove we're serious, maybe liberal academia could offer Larry Summers as a human sacrifice to start the atoning process.

You know, show 'em how it's done. Hope it catches on.

One of the biggest problems with the "means testing of everything" is it pushes the UK into the same zone as American attitudes towards public transit funding "services for the poor tend to be poor services"

You may not like it, but people like to see they get something back from the state
The UK just has incredible attention to detail when it comes to making sure the people who pay all the taxes can’t have nice things. Child benefit? No. Free Child car? No. Cut price bike to cycle to work? No.

Functionally we are telling people they pay too much tax to get anything from the state.

Good point. And elite impunity relies on a complicit mainstream press that’s ever more populated by elites or aspiring elites. Will eg the nyt’s Sulzberger, an ultrarich heir, or Kahn, another ultrarich heir, cover Epstein with the zeal they’ve reserved for pet right-wing projects like transphobia?
The Epstein story gets a something that is tearing at the heart of the electorate: elite impunity. The idea that wealthy and powerful people can do terrible things *at scale* and face no consequences for them. Whatever political party actually stops it could rule the country for a generation.

To recap: Jeffrey Epstein offered a NY Times reporter photos taken in Epstein's kitchen of Donald Trump and girls in bikinis *and* implored the NYT reporter to put this information in the public discourse in 2015

What did the NY Times editors know about this offer?

You promise?
"This could take down Democrats, too."

I know. And I frankly wouldn't give even an itty bitty damn if it implicated every Democratic man in Congress, every Democratic hopeful for 2028 and every Democrat who has even thought about running for office.

I keep beating this drum: the kind of people one thinks of as Silicon Valley "techbro" are so often finance people with an engineering cosplay habit, not actual technologists

Elon Musk was famously *never* a good coder and I can't believe he ever scienced a rocket either. But he craves that respect
the worst part is that for the people at the top "good at math"/sciencey is essentially a vibe one socially codes their way into by being minimally competent at informally discussing things actual math/science people do, unless (e.g.) Elon Musk has proven a theorem I didn't hear about.
I think the belief by the powerful that "people will put up with many things if you are excellent at math" is incredibly revealing in terms of understanding How We Got Here

An analysis of news pieces about Trump’s anti-trans decrees found that “70 percent did not include a quote from a single trans person. Instead, journalists turned to cisgender sources — mostly government officials — to speak about trans people, their lives, and how they would be affected.”

So much of what I research and write about is the confluence of flight safety & politics. When these two collide it causes ripple effects that derail policies & plans, delay funding, & destroy staffing goals & morale.

Politics fucks up flight safety & we are at a peak political moment for aviation.

So Dems demanded an extension on subsidies or else. Then they caved. The GOP being smart is now adding abortion restrictions to a subsidies extension forcing Dems to either sell out on abortion or vote no on the subsidies they demanded in the first place.

They just keep getting clowned.

Your definition of “bad actors” seems to be quite at odds with mine.
Our policy has been not to comment on individual accounts. You end up having to litigate every case in public, and we don’t have the capacity for infinite debates in public.

Then there’s also the consequences such as the increased litigation and bad actors gaming your systems.

"Kill them all" Fetterman is reported as having said.
