Leaving the ECHR won’t “Take Back Control” – it will hand your rights to politicians
The myths are seductive, the reality is very different – without the ECHR your freedoms rest on whichever Home Secretary wakes up grumpy

I wrote this on the most consistently terrible, and fatal, idea in centrist politics today. On Fanta, rebadging, and why attempting to win votes from fascists is morally disgusting and politically suicidal.

Séamas O'Reilly: Appeasing the far-right won't placate them — they'll just want the next cruelty
Their concerns are not about society, the economy or public safety, they’re an ever-moving target of fear and hatred that cannot be sated, it has to be challenged.

Page 1 of pop-sci books of "How to lie with statistics" shows this trick, fiddling with the vertical scale to make minor wobbles look more dramatic. It's easy to see through and - more importantly- is a very useful red flag of someone trying to pull the wool over your eyes.

Awesome wifey is awesome. Just spent a splendid evening listening to Randall “xkcd” Monroe speak, hosted by Robin Ince- because she spotted the ad, knew without asking I’d want to go too, and was fast enough on the button to get seats.

Everyone is handling this their own way, and no question it's bad, but may I gently suggest that old bit wisdom we've seen over and over "Do not obey in advance" includes letting him suck all the joy out of your life before he even gets in office. Enjoy some art and escape a bit. Post some nonsense

In my 20s, I was at a book party. A couple of right wing blowhards were there too.
A publicist said to me: “You should go right wing. The media can never find right wing young women. You’ll get so much work.”
I said: “But I don’t believe in those views.”
He laughed & said: “None of these guys do.” 🤷🏻‍♀️
