I remember reading that in about 1993, getting to the last few pages and thinking "Wow, this has been just *bleak*" … and then reading the last page and bursting into tears at the beauty.

I agree that someone needs to write that book. If you do, I hope you will discuss "The Glass Teat". Looking back from 40 years on, I now recognize that reading those two collections in college ultimately had a profound impact on the way I see media, politics, and the modern world.

And also: if it gets really crowded, you can have about 50 people packed into the space that would usually be taken up by a car (including the buffer space around it) … and those people weigh *way* more than the car. A crowd on a bridge can take the bridge beyond its design load.
