Been reading a lot of not-excellent material lately. Eagerly awaiting the book that breaks this streak and balances out all these mid, boring reads.

Seems to have been the author's first novel though so I can forgive a lot. Especially knowing his more recent stuff has done a lot better at trusting the reader to have a brain cell.

yes yes yes allegory for grief but what aspect of the human experience isn't in some way about grief. this is grief about breaking up.

Sorry but "my wife went through a traumatic incident and is now emotionally distant" does not count as horror, even if she bleeds a little sometimes.

I am not a particular fan of stories that label themselves horror but just do slightly weird stuff in pursuit of whatever theme they're after. If you're gonna call it horror there better be some actual horrifying happenings in there and it better feel horrifying

I like twine, but it can get technical in the documentation. You could try Inkle maybe? It has a visual web client that's really simple to use. Maybe it will click a little better?
