Not by Voltaire: "Those who can make you believe absurdities can make you commit atrocities."

Not by Lewis Carroll: “I'm not strange, weird, off, nor crazy, my reality is just different from yours.”

@konanjacks.bsky.social, similar to you, I like the aphorism posted by Buho Oscuro. But it's not by Voltaire. In response to the my comment (as @snarkhunt.bsky.social), Buho Oscuro blocked my Snark account, even though my comment wasn't snark.😉
«Those who can make you believe absurdities can make you commit atrocities» often it true. But it's not by Voltaire.

That aphorism is a "fairly recent hoax that seems to have been delighting internet users for about ten years.” (2015-11-23, www.letemps.ch/opinions/usa...).

In the midst of his laughter and glee,

I learned that “unlawful orders” might not exist anymore.

bsky.app/profile/feef...
Devil is in details: troops who refuse to carry out orders can expect to be court-martialed under UCMJ for failure to obey a lawful order.

Key distinction is lawful vs. unlawful orders, but that’s a DEFENSE.

Also, Trump v US says a POTUS isn’t bound by law, so “unlawful orders” no longer exist.
