Morgan Gold / Gold Shaw Farm
@goldshawfarm.bsky.social
Vermont farmer, writer and accidental internet person. Telling stories, chasing birds, and trying not to slip on the ice.
Working on a new video about Vermont. I got to go back to my childhood comic-drawing roots and make a Simpsons rip-off, just like I used to when I was 12.

Why I Can’t Leave Vermont By Anonymous

Oh how I love Vermont
When the snow’s up to your butt
You take a breath of winter air
And your nose, it freezes shut.

Yes, the weather here is wonderful
So I guess I’ll hang around.
I could never leave Vermont
Cause I’m frozen to the ground.

New comic and essay today explores the frustration things like Spotify wrapped and why it makes us so mad when we feel like we’re being misunderstood by robots.

Holiday music review (2 of 25)

“All I Want for Christmas Is You” is a kickoff anthem. The sound of a million holiday shopping season montages, I t’s best heard in the kitchen when doing the Thanksgiving dishes. The deeper into the season you get, the more it starts to spoil.

From my latest weekly comic strip…

And yeah, the cat drawing was Ginny-based.

Holiday music review (1 of 25)

The strange magic of A Charlie Brown Christmas is that it sounds like childhood remembered by an adult who knows the ending.

This week’s substack has a mini-comic you can download and print for free. My secret hope is that folks will print it, leave copies at bus stops and coffee shops, and accidentally create tiny treasures for strangers. Something that makes someone smile or leaves them wondering.

I’m considering hosting a New Year’s Steve party. It’s like a regular New Year’s party except you have to dress up like a famous Steve. Who would you dress up as?

This is Lil Barn Cat. She’s the cat that lives in my office. Surly, persnickety and manipulative, she is my constant indoor companion. During livestreams, you can find her right behind me, sitting in her bougie cat tree and giving stink eye. I love her with all of my heart.

So I’m starting to fall back in love with drawing comics. I realized that in a world of glossy slop, it feels soothing to produce awkward and poorly executed doodles to tell stories.
