Today we are launching 'The Third Rail' - our new report on how Britain can repair its broken relationship with the European Union without reigniting the divisions of Brexit.

For too long, this issue has been untouchable.

That has to change.

Immigration is a big issue for the UK public. There’s no way around it.

Many Brits feel left behind, feel devoid of opportunity and functioning public services.

But denying the contribution immigrants make to the UK economy is a fool’s errand.

📈 Inflation just rose to 3.6% - the highest it’s been all year.

For voters, that’s not just a number. It’s pressure on bills, wages that don’t stretch, and a cost-of-living crisis that still isn’t over.

Growth only counts if people feel it.

Electric cars will be getting cheaper - finally. But we've been saying this for months: net zero should mean everyday wins, meaning more pounds in people's pockets.

People want the NHS to survive - not just in name, but in practice. They want an NHS that’s there when they need it.

Reliable healthcare is the foundation of a good life and a strong economy. That is why reform is so necessary for the UK.

There is apprehension about the ability of the health system to function and patients’ access to good service.

This may affect people’s attitudes towards strike action by resident doctors - currently 56% oppose while 21% support.

Waiting lists are now the country’s top concern. The number one issue across political lines.

When asked what would most improve their lives, twice as many people chose a better NHS (40%) over a stronger economy (20%).

When asked what would improve their lives most, people didn’t say more money or less crime.

They said a better NHS.

That’s how much this matters - it cuts through everything else.

80% say the NHS needs to change to survive.

But the public does not want the NHS to abandon its principles. They want it to adapt to preserve them so that care remains free and universal.
goodgrowthfdn.bsky.social
Many fear the founding principle of the NHS - care based on need, not ability to pay - will not continue to be viable without intervention.

71% worry they’ll have to pay for NHS care in future. Only 1 in 5 are confident believe it will remain free at the point of use.

New Good Growth Foundation research shows the NHS is a huge priority for voters, and they are deeply concerned about its future.

They want to protect it - but for that, they know it must be reformed. Our findings below show what voters believe must be done to support the NHS.

Shifting NHS care from hospitals to the community (highstreets, town centres, etc) eases pressure on hospitals and brings care closer to those who need it.

It’s not just smart policy, it’s popular: 58% of Brits want the Government to prioritise local NHS services.

Fixing the NHS isn't a distraction from economic growth - it's a condition of it.

A healthy country means more people in work, fewer families pushed to a crisis point and services people can rely on.

Failure on the NHS is not an option
Reforming the NHS is not separate from the growth agenda. It’s central to it.

The @bankofengland.bsky.social’s Monetary Policy Committee holds interest rates at 4.25%.

Interest rates are at a stand-still as the Bank navigates a highly unpredictable international environment.

Key voting groups, and the wider public, agree - the UK should move towards a closer relationship with Europe.
goodgrowthfdn.bsky.social
The UK needs a stable trading relationship with the EU if it is to tackle the big issues facing voters: the cost-of-living crisis, economic security and national security.

@prafulnargund.bsky.social outlines on @bbcnewslive.bsky.social that good trade deals are a key element of this.
