Is that safe? Won't the universe implode or something like that?

It's only awful for the majority of us. It works really well for the super rich minority and that's what's important...

Out of curiosity - if you're starting a new project, how do you come up with names? In particular, internal names whilst it's being developed.
These tend to get everywhere in the project - eg repo names, Java package names, Go module names, etc - and so I'm curious how people choose them...

Well that's a new fear I didn't need... 😉

The most I've been doing is brushing them out the window if they're in the right place.

We normally get a few. This year we're seeing scores of them, and other houses in the estate are much worse!

So, at what point is the US officially in a civil war?

Because if it's not "The president ordering one state to send the military to invade another state" then I'm not sure what is...

Is anyone else currently plagued with ladybirds? Or just us?

Skittles are made with real fruit juice.
There are 5 different fruit flavours in a bag.

I therefore put forth the suggestion that a bag counts as your 5-a-day...

In case anyone needs a reason to vote against the Tories, the fact that they're now making promises to restrict your human rights if they win should be a big one.

After all, there really is no other reason to leave the thing that protects your human rights...

I am too poor to get back into it though...

Note that she never said it wasn't inappropriate. Just that it shouldn't be called out.

Maybe it's just me, but it seems that the very first people who should stop getting paid in a government shutdown are the people responsible for it. That is, Congress and the President. They can afford to miss a couple of paychecks much more than the people who are actually getting hurt by this...

My hands are hurting just looking at the spiky pictures...

Presumably the fact that SCOTUS has said the President can break the law only applies under US law, and he's still legally required to follow international law - and when he maliciously breaks international law he should be held accountable.
grahamcox82.bsky.social
It's illegal under several different parts of international law. And the Nuremberg Trials (I believe) held that you can't just use "I was following orders" as an excuse. So everyone in the chain of command - from the bottom to the top - is guilty of extrajudicial killing.

Random #accessibility question. Does anyone know of any good pages that can be used for testing good, bad and outright missing alt text on images?

I'm not convinced he could find the US on a blank map of the US...
grahamcox82.bsky.social
So he's ordering American soldiers to murder American citizens on American soil in defence of his secret police force that openly breaks the law.

I'm kinda curious at which point these soldiers will remember that their duty includes refusing to obey illegal orders...

This isn't the beginning of dictatorship. This is several steps down the line.
grahamcox82.bsky.social
Hands up if you find this surprising.
Anyone?
Anyone at all?

Who shot them?

Because given the trending terms and who the victims were, I had assumed that the detainees were murdered *by ICE agents*. But reading the stories, it seems otherwise..

I just hope it doesn't reach the same levels as the cult of MAGA, where his followers blindly refuse to believe the truth if it's in any way negative against him.
