We're going to be surveying DS-BorderCorral in 2026! South of Las Vegas, this site burned in 2023's York Fire, & thanks to donors, we'll be able to follow the bird community's recovery for another year. In 2025, we recorded 20 species, including 7 conservation priorities. THANK YOU for your support!

Because of your generosity, we'll be surveying this Mojave scrub transect in 2026! Thank you for the opportunity to continue monitoring how Nevada's desert bird community responds to changing conditions.

THANK YOU! Because of you, we will be able to resurvey this (former) Joshua tree site in 2026, almost 20 years after it burned & document how the habitat and birds are recovering. We surveyed here this year - not many birds, but there are some young Joshua trees starting up!

THANK YOU so much for your support! Because of you, we will be able to resurvey this transect in the Carson Range in 2026. We had almost as many White-headed Woodpeckers detected this year as there have been total across the 7 previous visits going back to 2004!

Today, we're kicking off #GivingTuesday with our Adopt a Survey program! Thanks to our supporters, we surveyed birds at 12 sites earlier this year, including here near Nevada's Black Rock desert, where we found 20 species, including 6 conservation priorities! THANK YOU!

This donor-supported survey in southern Nevada’s Avi Kwa Ame National Monument contained an array of Joshua tree and blackbrush species including Cactus Wrens, Ash-throated Flycatchers, Ladder-backed Woodpeckers, and (of course) Black-throated Sparrows. Thank you for making this survey possible!

Another of our #NevadaBirdCount projects this year was our adopt-a-transect program, where we were able to survey transects like this one in the Carson Range. Thank you to our supporters who made this survey possible!

One of our major #NevadaBirdCount projects in 2025 included setting out Automated Recording Units to record bird song on BLM habitat survey sites. We then overlaid NBC point counts and area searches on a subset of these sites. We're still analyzing the data, but are looking forward to the results!

Future field technicians in training?! We had a blast attending Animals Ark’s Education Expo back in September. Thanks to Animal Ark for inviting us to share our work and love of birds!

This Nevada Bird Count site in northeastern Nevada was home to Brewer's Sparrows and Greater Sage-Grouse. In the second photo you can see our SwiftOne automated recording unit mounted on a short t-post (fencepost). We're currently analyzing these data, so stay tuned :).

The Nevada Bird Count is not only a statewide framework, it acts as an umbrella encompassing a variety of project areas – from county-wide baseline assessments, such as of Clark County, to investigating the impacts of management actions on the bird community in particular mountain ranges.

Counting cones near Virginia City in August! Here, volunteers are surveying for ripe (green) pinyon pine cones. Mapping these cones helps track this vital Pinyon Jay food source- a key piece of the conservation puzzle. #PinyonJay #ConservationInAction #CommunityScience #GBBO

Our Bird Walk at Galena Creek on September 27th turned up an exciting variety of species, including Yellow-rumped Warbler, White-headed Woodpecker, Brown Creeper, and Mountain Chickadees!

It's November, and that means it's #NevadaBirdCount time!

The Nevada Bird Count (NBC) is a statewide bird monitoring framework, primarily consisting of point count transects. We now have ~ 1200 transects across Nevada and into adjacent states!
