Who is the right FB?
December 1, 2025 at 7:13 PM
Yeah, that's totally fair. Just a personal bias on my part against 4222. I feel it's very vulnerable down the flanks behind the fullbacks. If you want to play a box midfield, you almost have to play three at the back. My .02c.

Don't disagree, mate. The defensive solidity is a necessary step. I just can't help feel yesterday was something of a one off given the right side. Hopefully, the double pivot at least is something we can build on.

It's hard to see how it can be the long-term tactic, right? Unless by long-term you mean post-Salah.
December 1, 2025 at 4:27 PM
Lib, I wasn't scapegoating Salah. If someone else is doing it, let them know!

This is pretty much the point I was trying to make

Ha ha. An *old* rusted out Mazda 323. It was great!
December 1, 2025 at 4:15 PM
Looks like a true 10 to me. YMMV, of course.
December 1, 2025 at 4:15 PM
Of course they are, but you're missing my point. I'm not saying HOW GOOD anyone is, just WHAT they are asked to do.
December 1, 2025 at 4:14 PM
I think you are headed toward 3atb if you want to play double 10s and a striker
December 1, 2025 at 4:13 PM
👏👏👏
December 1, 2025 at 4:12 PM
Not a huge fan of the 4222 (you are incredibly vulnerable down the flanks) and it didn't work well the one time we played it, but ... maybe? Y For my money, you're better off playing 3atb with a box midfield.

This is his touch heatmap from yesterday 🤷‍♀️
December 1, 2025 at 4:08 PM
I don't believe I scapegoated Salah in anyway. He is certainly capable defensively, but has never been asked to carry a heavy defensive load. His p90 tackles + interceptions for LFC is .68. Gakpo is at 1.88. Very different roles 🤷‍♂️
December 1, 2025 at 4:03 PM
I'd give him the freedom of the park 🤷‍♂️
December 1, 2025 at 3:47 PM
According to Slot, he plays a 433, but this shouldn't be a semantic argument. The honest double pivot was the key yesterday, and will be key if we want to let Wirtz cook as a true 10. The two occasions the system broke down to let West Ham in yesterday were when Macca stepped out at the wrong time.
December 1, 2025 at 3:36 PM
tl;dr
* good win
* keep the double pivot
* probably a one off given who is most likely to play on the right side when everyone is healthy/available

(& please please don't just let it be weak opposition)

said, Slot likes Grav so it probably won't be this simple. Finally, at least for me, LW and CF remain concerns, although both players ended up contributing heavily to the score yesterday. Ah well. That's probably a thread unto itself. To summarize,

means Szobo plus one in the double pivot. I'd go Macca as the default, which should help with our ball progression issues, but I have no problem with Grav and Jones getting their minutes. That
December 1, 2025 at 3:34 PM
has definite implications for the press, but those implications are about familiarity, not ability. It's absolute slander to say Wirtz can't press as any one who watched B04 will attest. For me, this
December 1, 2025 at 3:34 PM
hope we're now at an end of the nonsense with Wirtz. He is the 10. He will be the 10. Giving him a consistent run is what will most help him (continue to) settle. Yes, this
December 1, 2025 at 3:34 PM
means who knows what to expect? The most important thing to look for will be the double pivot. That has to be the key to the shape, no matter what. I also
