Wait, we have an incredibly broad supply chain for commodity 120V bulbs of every size and stripe (incandescent, halogen...)

Why would they operate on a separate 60V standard?

Especially for something that travels, you'd think they'd want to maximize compatibility with the local hardware store.

Kind of fascinating, actually, that I haven't seen any Captain America-style comic characters based on real-life Jewish badasses from the 40s/50s doing partisan fighting in Italian forests, or the Haganah and the war for independence.

It's all just made-up schmaltz.

I mean, I know this!

But 10 year old me got handed something by an uncle that probably recycled the word "maccabee" somewhere in the title and I remember just thinking:

"...Seriously?"

Something else related to your point about the survival/joy link: anything else joyous about Judaism is hella cringe. I remember getting a Jewish superhero comic book at one point and it was some embarrassing tryhard simulacrum of a Marvel comic. No reason to feel more proud nor joyful and Jewish.

This is so spot on. I'm also a millennial. Birthright was fun but also felt like propaganda. I came away thinking "this place is the size of NJ and could get bulldozed any minute" but I've also simultaneously thought "they're going to be remembered by history as the next apartheid" for years, now.

Also, the point of the kiss-and-ride is to enable more people to partake of mass transit! It's literally dropping people off at a bus station! What else do they want?

This is in contrast to the park-and-ride: same concept, but with an enormous parking lot so you can leave your car there all day.

Oh, interesting!

I could go on a whole bit about Reconstructionist Judaism, the personal relationship with God and how it would mean that a Christian participating in kiddush would thus be asking God The Father to bless the wine.

But the kind of folks offended by Shabbat aren't gonna hear that.

... Also, for Christians or Muslims, it's the same God!

I think most of good luck in life is recognizing the good thing and affirmatively grabbing it before it passes you by.

Still kind of wild that someone else had the vehicle powerful enough to tow the float, showed up that night, saw the "art"... and just put the float on the hitch and drove it in the parade... I would have taken one look at what I'd be hauling and just say "absolutely the fuck not."

Quit trying to score points so damn hard, it's thirsty.

Oh, like other user-installed tools make up their own pseudo-handles and you *do* need to proxy those thru that IPC channel, or even--gulp--into win32 function calls like DuplicateHandle()?
October 30, 2025 at 4:19 PM
Are there valid non-pseudo handles < 0?

I'm surprised in this patch they went to the trouble of determining the least "known" pseudo-handle and checking a tight range with a long explanatory comment. Still feels...hacky?

As a bugfix, I'd probably bolt in a blunt negative check and call it a day.
