1931 Raleigh. If only all lorries were this size, cycling would be much more enjoyable. (It's a tricycle.) An American van disguised as a bomber complete with an iconic 'I've a slutty girlfriend' style pictures by the window. (Americans: it's a red pickup, circa 1940, very snazzy, with a pin-up girl logo on the door, wooden guard fencing in back, and white side-wall tires, including a side-mounted spare. Chrome bumpers complete the look on this beauty.)

Bluebottle's dad's cousin was a member of a Lancaster bomber crew that went missing in WW2. During the unfolding saga of the salvage of the remains from the IJsselmeer, the family visited Arnhem. We got photos - and Dutch kids on a tank! h2g2.com/entry/A88078...
THAT bridge in Arnhem, the 'John Frostbrug, which is of course the bridge over the Rhine that in 1944 was the focus of Operation Market Garden, one of the most famous battles of the Second World War. Unfortunately as we walked along we discovered that the path along the Rhine was completely fenced off –we could not get to the Bridge as planned, which somehow seemed appropriate.' Schoolkids whose teacher was 'ordering them to all climb on top of a Sherman tank for a school photo. I couldn't help but feel that this was completely different to the UK, where the approach would have been to shout at any child who so much as touched a tank.'

Inscription:Saint Patrick was born in Britain. At sixteen he was captured and taken to Ireland, where he was sold into slavery. He escaped to France, but one night in a dream he heard the voice of the Irish calling him back. How Patrick answered that call and brought christianity to Ireland is one of the most splendid chapters in our history. Accotding to tradition the remains of Saint Patrick with those of Saint Brigid and Saint Columba who is also known as Columcille, were reinterred on this site by John De Courcy in the 12th Century thus fulfilling the prophecy that the three Saints would be buried in the same place. Down District Council Recreation/Tourist Department. September 1985. Men. In red shirts and fezzes. On weird little motorised tricycles covered with various flags. Driving around in patterns going beep, beep. These are the Shriners. They're a charitable organisation that raises money for children's healthcare.

Interior view of the museum from the top of the top escalator looking down. It's a lovely study in glass, chrome, criss-crossing escalators, and a giant compass on the floor, but it might make you dizzy. On the other hand, you might want to yell something about being king of the world. We recommend you don't. There are bound to be security guards.
