Yeah, the religious undertones are definitely present.

But I like to think Beckett went wider than that - Godot would be an improvement in their lives but a vague one.

The boy says Godot beats his brother and the tramps wonder whether he will beat them too. Before that they mistake him for Pozzo.

Precisely

That is sad.
Although, there is an awful lot of tension lost just by knowing (or being spoiled) that Godot won't come 🤔

Watch the movie then, it's quite good.

Heck yeah
November 29, 2025 at 1:32 AM
That's a shame

I don't think so. You see, when Didi introduces us to Godot at the very beginning, it sounds as if they at least spoke. But he doesn't seem to be sure what Godot looks like. When he talks to the boy, he asks him whether Godot has a beard - which could be a sign of identity... or of passage of time

Ah, what an interesting choice of a question. Wouldn't you say that the answer lies in the nature of their previous contact with Godot?

Or was there any?

I don't think "understanding" is quite the right word. I don't think I understand it any better than I did back when I read it for the first time.

What happened now was more of a resonance.

That's surely one of the interpretations ;)

I mean, I got my old boring theory but if I were to have a proper fun of it, I'd say Godot is Lucky sans a few years (who knows how long they've been waiting anyway) :D

The frequency of usage of that phrase has definitely gone up in my book 😂

"just" the movie. I'm not from the States so Broadway isn't exactly accessible to me

Ooooh!

Brilliant

Or maybe the fundamentality of the vastness of the loss of this illusion

If I ever come across it in a book shop or antiques, I'll definitely grab it :)

I'm not sure, I guess I'll have to come back tomorrow
November 28, 2025 at 11:35 AM
Awesome! I'll have my fingers crossed it goes well
