Double trouble from Hammer with delightfully lurid artwork by Mike Vaughan 🖤
Poster artwork for the double bill of Twins of Evil and Hands of the Ripper, featuring brightly coloured characters and font. The twins appear in bright red open night dresses on the left, and on the right a bare shouldered woman is screaming with the silhouette of two clawed hands reaching for her.

Also released on this day in 1971 - and paired with Twins of Evil for one cracking double bill (!) - was the violent and psychologically intriguing Hands of the Ripper 🖤

On this day in 1971, Hammer released the final part of their Karnstein trilogy, Twins of Evil. A delicious tale of sisterhood, seduction, and torch-wielding hypocrisy 🖤

Braved a night out on a school night and to the 4K premiere of The Curse Of Frankenstein in London. It was *chef’s kiss*

A big shout out to the two lovely chaps who kept my daughter and I company while waiting for the doors to open. Wonderful to chat classic films while out in the wild.
A theatre screen displays promotional art for the world premiere of the 4K restoration of The Curse of Frankenstein. The artwork shows a dramatic painted scene with a skeletal figure, a monstrous creature looming with outstretched hands (The Creature/Christopher Lee), and a stern-looking man in a white coat (Baron Victor Frankenstein/Peter Cushing) surrounded by laboratory equipment and red liquid in a flask. Text reads: “On behalf of John Gore, welcome to the world premiere for the 4K restoration of The Curse of Frankenstein.” Logos for Hammer, Icon Film Distribution, John Gore Studios, Silversalt Restoration, and Warner Archive Collection are along the bottom. Three people pose together on a red carpet in front of a backdrop with logos including Hammer, The Curse of Frankenstein, John Gore Studios, Warner Archive Collection, and others. The person in the center wears a long black coat and has a pale, theatrical appearance, (in costume as Frankenstein’s Creature) while the two people on either side, both smiling, wear casual outfits—one in a denim jacket and dark pants, and the other in a cream sweater with a checkered skirt.

Live at the premiere of Hammer’s glorious restoration of The Curse of Frankenstein in Leicester Square! @jamescswanton.bsky.social was superb as the creature haunting the foyer, and 90 year old actor Melvyn Hayes (who portrayed young Frankenstein) stole the show with his humour and wit! 🖤

Alan Gibson directs Lee and Cushing as they prepare for the opening scene of Hammer’s first modern-day outing for the Count, Dracula A.D. 1972. The maligned but much loved picture began production on this day in 1971. 🖤
Behind the scenes shot of Alan Gibson in a white polar neck, holding a large wooden carriage wheel in front of a stern Lee. Lee is dressed as the count and stands with his hands on his hips whilst a tussled Cushing watches on from the side.

This Wednesday morning the devil has sent us….Twins of Evil! The House of Hammer Magazine, February 1977 🖤
Magazine cover art featuring Gustav Weil (Peter Cushing) brandishing a cross against a backdrop of a skull and bones against a burnt tree and a woman’s enlarged face in yellow, screaming as she burns.

Today also marks the day that the Baron’s final experiment began at Elstree Studios in 1972, with Frankenstein and the Monster from Hell starting production. With both Peter Cushing and Terence Fisher returning to the franchise, this would become Fisher’s final film for Hammer. 🖤
Production shot of Terence Fisher stood smiling on the laboratory set with Peter Cushing and Shane Briant stood behind him. Next to them is a model of the topless, hairy monster strapped upright to a board.

What a sweetheart she was. Gracious and kind 🖤

The beautiful and talented Veronica Carlson was born in Yorkshire on this day in 1944. Her portrayal as the tragic Anna in Hammer’s Frankenstein Must be Destroyed a standout performance for the studio. 🖤
Head and shoulders shot of Veronica Carlson in a pink nightgown looking pensively to the side. Waves of Golden hair frame her face.
