I don't fault her for what she did. I've had to deal with suicidal ideation for most of my life, and I know what it feels like to cross the line from ideation to intention. The best I can do is try not to regret that I wasn't able to actually help her--I didn't even realize it was a plea.

She was an ardent nihilist and didn't believe in any sort of afterlife. But she was my friend and I'll always remember that she was there. She was tired and isolated, and reaching out to everyone, including her housemates, for support... and nobody was able to give it to her.

The worst part is that she called me to ask for help before the end. I was stressed out; looking for a place to live and unable to get one on my own--and all she wanted was someone to connect to. I couldn't spare the mental resources, and a few weeks later... she was gone.
