Volunteer Angie reports: “Lots of visitors at playgroup today with some older new arrivals who immediately made friends with other children, including our newest member who is only 2 months old. It was wonderful to see the other mums welcoming and supporting each other.”

Marianne is the author of #ForcedToFlee which shows the trauma undergone by asylum seekers as they seek sanctuary here. Getting to know and understand the asylum seekers and what brought them here has led to a warm friendship and mutual respect as you can see here.

Marianne has helped so many people - and the refugees and asylum seekers were so happy to be able to show their thanks and appreciation.”

Operation tidy-up: when our fantastic local hub asked Herts Welcomes Refugees for volunteers to spend a few days sprucing up their grounds, refugees and asylum seekers couldn't wait to don their hi-vis jackets and get stuck in. Here they are - keen to work and give back to our community.

Helping restore dignity to asylum seekers waiting for their claims to be heard. We were delighted to hear that a local barber, #PicassoCutandCoffee has again sent their team to a local asylum centre and cut the hair of 30 asylum seekers. Such a simple gift that makes such a difference.

Our report has found that young male asylum seekers arriving in Hertfordshire fled their homeland because of ill treatment and fear of persecution.. read the truth behind the rhetoric at hertswelcomes.org.uk/forced-to-fl...
