I rolled credits on more than a dozen games this year, way more than my usual 5 or 6. The release calendar was just terrifyingly crowded with great games. I'll have to slow down if this continues in 2026.

Some honorable mentions that should be on more lists...

For years, I've tried to keep up with what's going on around me in the games industry by playing at least two new release games every month. I'm currently at 24 for 2025, and these are the two I can't stop thinking about:

the key to a low spotify music age is to just listen to the clair obscur soundtrack on repeat

can't think of a better example of how unserious the whole crypto industry is than coinbase choosing a sponsorship that required them to create a fungible token

Once Upon A Katamari probably isn't Game of the Year, but it's the game we need right now

At least the degree to which everyone is pissed off right now is showing up at the ballot box. With shifts like this, did California even need redistricting to flip 5 seats in 2026?

This is great! Just a little hard to see the Extra Points logo, though :)

They're in stock. You just have to re-enter your shipping zip code and then you can add to cart. It says out of stock till then for some reason.

Shoutout to ACCN for giving us this sequence of Brent Key stepping off the team bus at Duke, immediately seeing a bomb sniffing dog with a "DO NOT PET" vest, and asking if he can pet the dog

Look I'm not an expert but I don't think this is what the Packers defense wants to look like

My biggest pet peeve is games with teleport locomotion that introduce a mandatory climbing mechanic where you grab and drag to move. Usually where I have to quit playing.

(may have loosely inspired this elevator requiring you to walk up stairs in FP2)

It also gets basic information about our games wrong. For example: our single player game has no player death or fail cases, but Google insists it does and also falsely creates an in-game currency (we don't have one) and tells players to try a non-existent multiplayer mode.

This is a HUGE problem for puzzle / adventure games, where it spits out enough details to sound plausible. Pick one of your favorites and ask about a hard puzzle. Here's it confidently hallucinating about Paradise Killer (wrong about holy seals, the footbaths do not activate corridors, etc)

The only incentive that really matters IMO is that they reduce the UE5 engine royalty *across all stores* from 5% to 3.5% if you have simultaneous launch on EGS. Worth it for Unreal devs, at least.

Good news is that as of the most recent update, the forecast for the Los Angeles area is wave heights of "less than 1 foot" above normal (and it's been trending down)

My phone got the local emergency alert almost two hours after NOAA/NWS moved us from a watch to an advisory, and about 30 minutes after NOAA/NWS downgraded the forecast for our area to "less than 1 foot." Better than nothing, but not great!
