Artist vs Art
Rather disquieting day of double digit temperatures and pouring rain, and the news that South African penguins are all starving.
I don't, thankfully, suffer from Seasonal Affective Disorder, but for the sake of my sanity, I do try and avert my brain from considering the worst consequences of the climate crisis too often. One thing that's been hitting recently is how Ireland's weather has changed within my lifetime. 1/3

Speaking on mental health in particular, I suspect that the issue might lie in the fact that if your condition is not severe enough to warrant inpatient treatment, but is too severe to be addressed by frontline medication *there is absolutely zero support*.

Wonder how many times we'll all have to read the "Party McPartyFace" joke before this fiasco is over.

I've once again had grand Christmas crafting plans I've utterly failed to deliver.

It's every year!! I really should learn my lesson and start in May.

Feel the "but my London house is just a 3 bed" crowd are somewhat missing the ⭐️Yes But It Is Still Worth 2 Million Quid⭐️ point a little.

There are obvious MAHA, right wing wellness, free market tones here, but this is also an extreme culmination of very mainstream dismissal of childbirth and the endless appeals to 'nature' whenever pregnancy and childbirth is discussed.

A movie that takes place where you’re from

For better or for worse

I haven't actually seen it but it will need to capture the vibe of Only Fools and Horses "Down to Margate" episode to be an artistic success, imo.

It's this kind of faux-profoundity that fuels my low-stakes conspiracy that Rings of Power was largely written by AI and this was going to be triumphantly announced by Amazon when it was a barnstorming success, so they could enjoy the share price uplift of having the Makes Great Content machine.
Just had Gemini rewrite the story in the style of Cormac McCarthy (sorry CmC, RIP).

The river breaks the stone not in wrath but in the counting of days.

The general spat on the floor. He looked at the screen and then at the glass.

Damn them, he said.

The Hunt For The Worst Movie Of All Time: Eat, Pray, Love
A clarification: I haven’t read Eat, Pray Love by Elizabeth Gilbert. I actually really want to. I’ve hated that book for years, but I’ve never actually read it, and I think I owe MYSELF more. Forget E...

I've never read the books but I suspect the new 'The Forsytes' series might be painting in somewhat broader strokes

People in the UK need to realise this too. While better than the US, healthy food & cooking from scratch is more expensive.

Even reasonable people have this weird folksy idea that if you boil your chicken bones you can live on a thruppence, a those in poverty are either a) ignorant or b) feckless
Why do people buy pizza with EBT?

Because cauliflower is five dollars a head and you can buy five pizzas with the same money.

It’s not that folks don’t want to be healthy. They can’t afford to be healthy.
