Depressing realisation that FIFA, in expanding the World Cup, have effectively shrunk it. V little jeopardy in the group stages, with only 16 of 48 teams eliminated. A competitive tournament begins in earnest in the ‘round of 32’, preceded by a 72-match procession. Nice for the advertisers though!
