I don't expect to be followed back. When I find your stuff interesting, I don't necessarily expect you to find my stuff interesting. That photo is fake. It's not me. But also, basically, it is.

Happy Yankees Elimination Day to all who celebrate it.

That's some asshole behavior, for sure. I wouldn't want to work for a boss who talked to me that way.

At the same time...it's the way I'd expect a lot of people talk to their subordinates, and I wonder if this would seem at all remarkable if the cursing boss were a man.

I don't think people should expect follow-backs. It seems impractical to have thousands of follows--wouldn't that be extremely noisy?

But also, I know that people often DO expect follow-backs, and at the scale at which you operate, you'd be disappointing an awful lot of people if you didn't

I note, for instance, that while Leo was born in Chicago, little or none of his church career took place in the US. He's not, so far as I know, a creature of the American Bishops.

Is this gonna work? I don't follow the day-to-day of the USCCB, but I'd gotten the idea they ran from MAGA to ultra-MAGA?

That country elected the tyrant, and did so with eyes wide open.

I hope everyone stands up to him as best they're able. But I have some sympathy for people who say "You know what? Screw you. You put me in this jam, and I don't owe you anything."

This is all true. I'm an older dad. Much more set in my ways.

But also? I'm way smarter than when I was young, and I've got lots more money and attention to give the kid.

I need to sit down and just think about "crucified her like a dog" for a while. Maybe with a stiff drink.

EU doesn't play around. They're a far more consumer-friendly jurisdiction than the US. We could learn a lot from them.

A chili place up in the San Fernando used to do that, some years back. It was a revelation.

Google informs me that it likely wasn't pig skin. Cheerfully conceded! I saw hairy SOMETHING and I still get a little shiver every time I see menudo on a menu.

A young lady I was spending time with (and later married) grew up eating menudo and ordered it once at a restaurant. I'm still traumatized. I swear I saw HAIRY chunks of pig skin in it.

I liked her a lot, so I didn't react. But that has stayed with me.

The state doesn't pay my federal taxes. I do.

And if I don't, the state has no ability to stop the feds from seizing my bank accounts, seizing my pay, or otherwise pulling the walls down.

If I saw a parent pulling that ice cream stunt, I'd call child services.

I was well into adulthood before I had ANY idea what your oma and opa's politics were.

to teach partisan politics to their kids. An adult that a kid trusts can fill their head with anything they choose.

Here's what matters: I want you to be honest, and to demand honesty. Demand leaders who are thoughtful and decent and who strive to serve all of their people ...

7yo literally asked me yesterday "Dad, do you like Donald Trump?"

I said: I don't want to tell you what I think of him. That's grown-up stuff, and he'll be out of the picture, one way or another, long before you need to be thinking about it.

And I don't think it's fair for parents...

Reminds me of the kids I knew in grade school who had poorly formed, but strongly held, political views. Even then, it seemed to me that I could only be hearing, at second hand, what their parents were telling them. What ten-year-old could worry about social security?

If you don't drink an absolute shit-ton of beer, it may be hard to understand how much beer some more-or-less-normal people drink.

I know healthy, well-functioning people who drink 20+ beers a week.

I was smart enough to know that the shell game operator on the El was palming the pea.

But still, he was the expert, and I could never see when he did it.
