‘I am resolutely in the camp of the losers. The losers who are deprived of the right to leave any trace of their defeat and deprived of the right of proclaiming it.

I am inclined to speak of this defeat, but there is no question of surrender’.

(Mahmoud Darwish, Palestine as Metaphor)

Really touched by all the messages and comments from colleagues and friends who have read (or attended) our BERA plenary, also by the academics and academic associations choosing to share the text. 🙏🏾

It’s arrived. The best theoretical text I’ve ever read on the figure and experience of the refugee.

Congratulations @hyabyohannes.bsky.social @uofgunescorila.bsky.social

Six copies of my book arrived today.
The book insists that writing and reading, in a world where the possibility of a livable life is vanishing for many, are the last remaining acts of solidarity. We must imagine a new world when the current one becomes unlivable.

Unending carnage. Mortal silence. Active complicity in the unfolding genocide.

If the crushed flesh and bones of emaciated children and the wailing of mothers unable to feed their babies fail to evoke a visceral response and concerted action, then how can the international community hope to stop an unfolding genocide?

“Think of Others” by Mahmoud Darwish

What can a society that is held hostage by its own elected officials, by laws that have grown inhumane, and by calcified racism do to rebuild a world that has been amputated from its foundations? What lies at the crossroads between brutality and powerlessness?
hyabyohannes.bsky.social
After all, will this brutal world ultimately confess its madness? Will its confession be genocide? Perhaps it will once again declare ‘never again’, insisting on moving forward without accountability. This is the essence of coloniality, which renders some lives violable, expendable, and disposable.
hyabyohannes.bsky.social
With the genocide now in its latest stage, the political class that actively supported & defended it is now hoisting themselves to a moral high ground from which to declare ‘never again’ once an entire population has been starved to death or crushed in concentration camps.
hyabyohannes.bsky.social
How can one sleep after reading these words from colleagues?

‘Our homes have been destroyed, and our tents have been blown away. We now sleep on blood-stained ground. We can’t walk anymore…. We are starving, and children are dying’.
hyabyohannes.bsky.social
The abyss is unending: unrestrained violence, starvation, destruction, & systematic eradication of life. Emaciated children tremble beneath constant fire, brutally murdered in their thousands, with families swept away. The West’s complicity & betrayal of the world are astounding.

That hand is raised once more! The world is held hostage by a veto power.

A defiant decolonial voice has departed, becoming an ancestor. Ngũgĩ stood firm like a giant baobab tree, whose words disrupted the very grammar of coloniality from deep within its roots.
