I think this is a key mechanisms that the right has managed to gasp in order to fuel their culture war. Their goals and the cruelty that they desire to dispense is their *objective,* but the mechanism to achieve it is a lot simpler than that.

They're exploiting people's fear of being othered.

More amazing hybrid costume/puppetry stuff.

Suspension-of-disbelief level: even the cameraman points to stuff and interacts as if the character can see anything. 💯

What if this but werewolf?

Hell yeah.

The idea of a politician essentially getting a restraining order against a constituent because he didn't like the way he was being spoken to is very funny to me.

Politicians want to be aristocrats, how dare the peasants speak to them so.

It's literally their job to hear complaints.

If you're not organizing in real life, human to human, community to community, then you're already in that trap, no matter how many times you boost a good post about something important.

Just something to consider.

Online activism has limits and those limits are constricting all the time.

We need to brace for a world in which the internet (and social media) is so locked down & curated by cynical capitalist/nationalist interests, that it ceases to be a useful tool, and instead becomes a trap, a honeypot, a release valve for social & political resistance

I'd argue we're already there.

Social media is not a friend of change, it's a tool owned and controlled by corporations with specific goals, and those goals almost never align with leftwing change.

People have successfully used that tool for good, but it is naive to think that capital isn't constantly trying to make that harder.

Sometimes social media feels like this great organizing force, sharing passion for change.

Other times it feels like this vacuum that siphons off passion to be vented safely into a cordoned off space where corporations can contain it with algorithms so it doesn't end up reaching a broad audience.
