US is getting to watch their 2nd largest geopolitical rival chop off their own arms and legs for the price of 1% of the yearly defense budget and a bunch of hardware that's sat in the desert for the past 20 years. I hate to put it in that context, but as an ROI this has never been better for the US.

On one hand I understand that the Palestinians are pissed for having to live in an apartheid state, but you don't go and commit Jewish 9/11 and expect to have them come to a peace table happily. You may have legit grievances, but you just shot your international support in the foot with this shit.

2/2 the Russians know that if Ukraine became a gas exporter that it'd effectively kill their market in western Europe. In 2014 most of Europe didn't really care that they took Crimea, but now they'll never sell another meter³ of gas to Europe again. Ukraine will be Europe's gas exporter post-war.

February 2014 Shell drilled an exploratory hole in the sea of Azov and found a massive gas reservoir under the surface they applied for a full off-shore drilling permit from kyiv, then the Russians staged their first "invasion" into the DPR/LPR, and seized Crimea, making the drilling impossible. 1/2
