Remember when the internet wasn't awful? We can go back to that.

Some friends and I have released the Resonant Computing Manifesto: a call to bring back such a time, to see if we can bring back a world where technology works for us, rather than against us.

The Resonant Computing Manifesto
Technology should bring out the best in humanity, not the worst—a manifesto for resonant computing built on five principles that reject hyper-scale extraction for human flourishing.

One of the biggest drivers of high housing costs is that a small, highly motivated group of incumbent homeowners block new housing in their neighborhoods and almost no one is organized to push back.

Young people bear the brunt of that imbalance.

Be a housing fan.

What happens when you make bus travel free throughout your city? Iowa City can tell you. They scrapped bus fares in 2023 and delivered a measurable mode shift: residents drove 2.9 million fewer kilometres and annual emissions fell by 24,000 tonnes of CO₂. The policy continues.

What happens when you make childcare free and universal? New Mexico are about to find out, having recently become the first US state to do so. This new move eliminates income tests and co-pays, raises wages for educators and will save some families more than $12,000 a year.

@hankgreen.bsky.social In your recent video (about boomer presidents) you asked what the next story is. This made me think of my father who has been thinking and writing about that for the last 40 years. You might appreciate his recent work: co-evolving.context.org/p/foundation...

New positive ways are emerging! We need to seek them out, support them and promote them. While it's still important to resist the bad things, it's even more important to fan the flames of the good things that will replace them!

We did something different with the credits for Demonschool. We used this format: name, title, lengthy description of what they did. Often you see credits in games where you don't know what the credited developer was actually responsible for. We wanted to give people proper, actual credit.

Doomscrolling is an attempt to binge-watch the current season of our shared reality.

You're tapping into the instinct that if you just keep reading, you'll find out how the story goes! That's not how reality works, though; it happens on its own schedule and no amount of scrolling will speed it up.

Folks, if you are hungry, please contact your local Sikh gurdwara. Or just show up for langar, which most gurdwaras do several times a week, for a free meal. Lots also do weekly or monthly drives giving out groceries.

No conversion necessary. Feeding anyone who is hungry is a key part of Sikhism.
A lady on TikTok has been calling churches pretending to be a mother with a baby who needs formula and several churches turned her away. But wouldn’t you know that when she called a Mosque (Islamic Center of Charlotte) they immediately said yes.

The average American uses enough water for 800,000 chatbot prompts. per day. That seems insane because normally we don't think about the amount of water it takes to make a single sheet of paper or (if you're in for a wild ride) to produce a hamburger or pair of jeans.

Yes, excellent point. Mikie Sherrill's use of the "liberty and prosperity" slogan is really important. It captures this emerging Dem politics of the Trump 2.0 era very well.
Sherrill was hammering “liberty and prosperity,” the NJ state motto — which is a very flexible and nonpartisan message for Dems. Freedom from corruption, kidnappings, speech crackdowns, etc, and a chicken or at least an affordable dozen eggs in every pot
Mamdani-Spanberger-Sherrill axis suggests outlines of an emerging Dem coalition organized around anti-Trump *and* affordability politics. This is doing serious damage to the MAGA coalition. Its success this week undermines the idea of a big Trump 2024 realignment. 7/

This is why I regularly let people know how awesome I think they are.

We often think that awesome people must naturally know they’re awesome, but they don’t. And letting them know could be the little push that they really needed that day.
Low key, this is why I think you should send fan mail to the niche people you love and not huge people. Bts is gonna get thousands of letters, but that soundcloud rapper may go there entire career getting nothing.

Tell your niche favs you love them in a way that is not weird!!
The funniest thing about being A Person in a very niche microcommunity is that you suddenly realize that the people you think of as "famous" in other microcommunities are in the exact same boat as you

Systemic imposter syndrome "my niche is so unimportant I promise, unlike yours, SoundCloud rapper
