The Government’s proposed cuts to benefits will see more than 400,000 disabled people left facing extra disability related costs with little or no support from PIP. The Government must change course and must listen to disabled people to prevent them being pushed into deep poverty.

This is a huge shortfall in what they need to live on and I have met people and organisations in the constituency who are struggling to pay for the support and services they need.

The average Personal Independence Payment (PIP) – the money that enables disabled people to pay for specialist support, medical equipment and transport to access training or work opportunities - is £465 a month across households.

There are over 15,000 disabled people living in St Neots and Mid Cambridgeshire and according to Scope’s research, it costs a disabled household over £1,000 a month more to have the same standard of living as non-disabled households.

I secured a commitment from the Housing Minister this week to meet with me once the Strategic Environmental Assessment concludes and the Government confirms whether they will progress with their plans at Tempsford.

The development could bring opportunities and jobs to our area, but only if the Government ensures that St Neots gets the boost to education, health, and water infrastructure that it will need to accommodate and thrive alongside such significant growth in housing nearby.

✔️ Visited Anglia Ruskin University and met with Vice Chancellor, Roderick Watkins. We toured the Cambridge campus and discussed the success ARU has had in steering young people into careers, as well as concerns about the Government’s proposed levy on international students.
