Walking to the pub with a beer in mind. See also https://thewickingman.wordpress.com/
It seemed to me to be one of the most pointless political roles invented. In Derbyshire, the PCC is a human shield for the Chief Constable. All for a force, that in COVID times, was tracking hikers on the S. Yorks border with drones and chasing down peppermint tea drinkers in country parks.

Off to Antwerp in May. Very useful info for our planning.

It was an essential stop for us on the way to a week in Drimnin, a few years back. Lovely beers and IIRC there was a good bakery nearby.

Wonderful live band in the 70s. I think some hearing loss is their fault. Impressive speaker stack climbing by Dan Hegarty IIRC.

The fieldfares seemed early this year. We had a few in my part of the Peak District in late September.

Must be difficult to cover everywhere with 30 inspectors but the rural pubs do seem to be a bit same old, same old.

I noticed in the article that you linked James' working class background to his parents' jobs. I find myself doing the same. It seems like we have to justify ourselves?

Recently watched Dear England at Sheffield Lyceum. Brilliant play, thoughtful and uplifting. We need to nurture the next James Grahams for their distinctive voices to be heard.

Excellent use of bin lid as bails.

Walking up Bank Road is tough enough. We should have gone to watch.

I recommend this one. Anglicised with Stone's Ginger Wine, and I topped the filling with membrillo from the reduced syrup.

Quince Slab Pie
Quince, a vibrant cousin of the apple, mingles well with spiced and sweet ingredients. The fruit is poached in a wine-spiked syrup, which coats it as it bakes.

She's a keeper. What's the current exchange rate? 5 empties for 1 of jam?

I had a very good one night stay with walking mates in the summer. A pub that really knows its market and works hard at hospitality (the non-fawning variety).

There's even a quince overload up here. Spiced quince chutney next. No chance of getting rid of apples.

Also had a brief association with the jazz rock collective Redbrass.

I wonder what happened to them all?

I remember a day on the IWLD arriving at the pre-rebuild Black Sail in torrential rain and waterproofs struggling. The joy of opening the door and finding tea and chocolate cake for 50p.
