This month marks 10 years since the #Dieselgate emissions scandal first broke. 🚗 💨

So, how did it all start?

In the 1990s, diesel cars grew popular in Europe. By 2011, they were over half of new registrations. But concerns about NOx emissions, linked to health issues, grew.

🚗 Our European car market monitor is now available.

In August, a month usually slow for car sales, battery electric vehicles (BEVs) reached an average 19% market share of new registrations across Europe.

That’s 2 percentage points higher than in July.

Who’s buying electric cars in France? 🇫🇷

Until recently, BEVs were more common among private buyers than companies in #France. In the first half of 2025, this gap closed as private demand slowed, and fleet adoption increased.

Fiscal measures and incentives likely influenced this shift.

⚠️ Data choices in life-cycle assessments can affect results—and cause confusion about battery electric cars' climate benefits.

While BEVs have higher manufacturing emissions, these are offset within 2–3 years (~17,000 km).

A reliable #LCA based on real-world data is key to informing consumers. ✅
