EVs are better than fossil cars and are the future IMO.
Measures like that will just slow the uptake just like the UK OBR seems to predict for the UK context as well.

Initially it was just about the signal that EVs aren’t desired.
Closing the price advantage EVs had delayed people from switching that potentially would have.

There is certainly support for fossil cars with them recently scrapping the clean car standard making high emitters significantly cheaper.

The spike in the graph is the rush at the end of incentives.
EV are now cheaper than before with incentives (e.g. BYD Atto1 $29,990/~£13,000), but still need to recover.

Though the govt also added higher registration fees for EVs than for ICE a little after that.

Remember when the CEO of microsoft also said the very wrong thing that AI was great in software and that 30% of their code was done by AI and then this was the result

Microsoft finally admits almost all major Windows 11 core features are broken
Microsoft has confirmed that Windows 11 Shell and every associated core feature and element are actually broken, and have been like this for many months.

So the government basically says that building LESS bike lanes costs money due to increased ACC costs from injuries!?

The logical conclusion would be to accelerate the rollout of protected bike lanes then, right?

It’s ironic when Metallica is basically responsible for killing Napster

It's so cool how this government is doing so many Trumpian things- voter suppression, climate denial, interfering in education against expert advice, destroying healthcare, rolling back environmental protections- but we're still largely treating them as normal and being like 'But how's the economy?'

Could’ve saved money on the Electric Car Grant.

It’s like driving with a foot on the brake and the other on the accelerator.

Yes, this will disrupt EV adoption.

This should apply to all cars equally for an equal playing field.

New Zealand showed what happens if that’s only on EVs - you can clearly see where it’s been implemented.

A government surveillance devices in-car sounds absolutely terrible.

Yes most likely it will disrupt the uptake.
New Zealand did the experiment and this is the result (you can clearly see where it’s been implemented):

You seem to have more time till it goes into effect though. Good luck!
*IF* you are wondering how this is going in #NewZealand
