Instead of land-use conversion, Filipino peasants campaign for genuine land reform, so Filipinos actually own, cultivate and use their lands in the ways they determine are best for the whole people and not just the elite Filipinos and foreign companies.

Homes and farms in rural areas are being torn apart for pit mines, shopping malls, golf courses, and even fake “developments” which sit vacant and line the pockets of corrupt politicians. Many of these projects don’t even have legal permits.

Under the Philippine government’s so-called “land use conversion” program, the Philippine Department of Agriculture rubber-stamps projects which displace peasant communities and destroy their livelihood in the name of “development” and profit.
