This rare process may explain the 1755 Lisbon M8.7 quake and could mark the initiation of a new subduction zone.

study shows Earth’s max safe underground CO₂ storage is ~1,460 Gt, and can only cool the atmosphere <1 °C. Without deep CO₂ cuts, we’ll hit that before 2200.
