2025 Horror Marathon No. 12

Audiobook: Don’t Fear the Reaper by Stephen Graham Jones (2023)

Honestly I wasn’t crazy about the 1st book but I dug the finale. This one, the sequel, is way better. Lots of great deaths. A twisty story which didn’t fully unfurl until the very end. Great!

2025 Horror Marathon No. 11

Film: Smile (2022)

OK, yep, this one got me. About half way through I had to turn on the lights and stop the “cinema experience “. Too many dark corners for smiling faces to peer from. My poor heart. #horror #film

2025 Horror Marathon No. 10

Book: Jackknife by Joe Hill (2025)

I’ve read a couple of things by Hill in the past and quite enjoyed them. This short story (novella?) about a bloodthirsty tree was … fine. It’s no Day of the Triffids.

2025 Horror Marathon No. 9

Film: Pearl (2022)

I haven’t seen X (the film this is a prequel to) so didn’t know what to expect. I certainly didn’t expect Scarecrow dry-humping …

Stylish, well-shot and Mia Goth is stunning. The final shot will haunt my nights for the foreseeable future.

2025 Horror Marathon No. 8

Game: Little Nightmares II (2021)

Great game! Perfect length for me too. Not too long, but still packed with great visuals and music. Creepy, touching and sometimes tense. The ending was ace. Arrow to the heart. #horror #game

2025 Horror Marathon No. 7

Film: Hush (2016)

A deaf woman and mute woman, alone in her house in the woods, gets stalked by a sadistic killer. Nice twist on a classic formula but no big surprises here. Did feel good when the killer got his though. 🔪 #horror #film

Discovered an old magazine from my youth. I was so into #PowerRangers for a while there. And it seems I was particularly into the Red Ranger, as I cut his face out of this mag for some reason …

2025 Horror Marathon No 6

Audiobook: The Ritual (2011)

Enjoyed the film so I wanted to check out the book. Very surprised by the big changes in the second half. Great audiobook narration! I’m going to have to”Fenris”s voice stuck in my head for a while now. #horror #book #audiobook

2025 Horror Marathon No. 4

Film: Run (2020)

Went into this knowing basically nothing about the plot, so all the twists were nice a fresh. Great performances from the leads. Loved the final scene. Also, Tom the Mailman? What a solid guy! #thriller #film

2025 Horror Marathon No. 3

Film: Carnival of Souls (1962)

Hadn’t seen this before. Lots of interesting shots and while the “scary guy” wasn’t especially effective at times, I thought the lead actress was on point. The colouring of the film was also disorienting. In a good way. 😁 #horror #film

2025 Horror Marathon No. 2

Audiobook: Someone You Can Build a Nest In (2024)

I’m not really one for romance but this frequently hilarious, often gruesome and truly touching tale of a shapeshifting monster falling in love with a gentle human really tickled me on many levels.

2025 Horror Marathon No. 1:

Movie: Tales from the Crypt (1972)

Couple of great stories in this classic British-made Anthology. The Peter Cushing one was genuinely pretty moving. I always loved the bright red blood in these kinds of movies.

Can’t even recall how many countless times I’ve read this. Loved it as a kid, love it now. This is how great comic books can be.

Feels like my birthday! (Except I paid for it all ..) Thanks #WorldOfBooks for this haul of #secondhand books. (Oh, except the X-Men comic - that’s new and the first of my sub)

You know, The Hulk could be pretty scary. Like this time he almost killed Spider-Man…

My 3-year-old made this at school and while I think it’s very cute I can’t quite ignore the bloody tears …

Started re-reading my old comic collection for the first time in ~20 years. First off, the stories that made me fall in love with the medium. I actually liked the fact they were in black and white. I think you can appreciate the artwork more. Just got to John Byrne’s first issue. #comics #Xmen

I had a Milk Chocolate Stout the other day. It’s a Valentines Day special edition.

Not especially good to be honest. #beer
