This is more about the recent past but it holds true for any period of history. Looking at reports on what "normal" people left behind after their death in e.g. the 17th c., and it is amazing how many people owned... one tankard, a stool, a bed, maybe, and a table? If that. Furniture was a luxury.
It is genuinely hard for most people to grasp how poor the past was.

I am normal, which means that ever since booking our trip to Stockholm I have NOT been spending my time reading about Swedish history, downloading travel apps on my phone, and pinning museums and cafes I want to go to

came across this portrait of Sir James Whitelocke (father of Bullstrode Whitelocke who you may know of War of the Three Kingdoms shenanigans) and I need you all to see what an absolute UNIT he is

Did Geoffrey of Monmouth write this script?
Thanks to the BBC we've just learnt that the effigies of Gog and Magog, appearing in the Lady Mayors Show are:

"representations of 2 giants captured by the Roman general Brutus, first governor of Londinium, back in the day" 🧐

Thank you

Not the thing that might *finally* push me over the edge and force me to get my own laptop being that I really want to try Foundry VTT

Three D&D sessions this week. One as co-DM, one as DM, one as player. The VERY brief takeaways from each:

Monday: old man or mean woman? ply stooges with wine

Wednesday: gang runs from zombies. finds monastery beset by zombies. runs back to fight zombies.

Thursday: Ocean's Twelve. Heist board.

Martin, afterwards: "this is really your main hobby now, huh?"

And it kind of is! Honestly, I would still like to do more of it but (temporarily) having it three nights a week is enough, I need to keep *some* nights free for other socialising and such 💀

While we're on this, Applause remains criminally underrated. Such an absolute banger.
I don't normally have Bad Romance on rotation but whenever it does come up on shuffle I am reminded of what an all-time classic of pop perfection it is
