It will spread the backlog to other areas. The Mags have backlogs already & struggle to recruit. This is the reality and none of it will change by removing juries. It just erodes transparency of justice and changes the balance of power.

This from a criminal barrister shows why the court system is in crisis👇🏻. Nothing to do with juries causing it. Move the furniture round while the house is burning, you only end up with ashes. The system needs funding & fixing, juries are just one cog in a large machine. @barristersecret.bsky.social

Tonight, The Standard reports on OBR Chair’s resignation, but it’s this snippet that caught my eye. Is it really that they think it has happened before OR imo, is it more likely said person KNEW the OBR was going to drop it early. A tip off? 👀 This seems v suspect. OBR is independent, obviously 😏.

You may laugh - The Times actually published an article a few days ago about how to devalue your house to skirt this tax. One of the things was install astroturf 😂. It’s a paywall so hence the screenshot.

Madness but many don’t care. Can you believe this👇🏻was Lammy in 2020. I suspect the answer to my question is ‘yes, you can’ 😒. The Criminal Bar is already facing a recruitment & retention crisis - this won’t help. The judiciary are nowhere near representative enough for this.

No backtracking. The man was 32 so knew exactly what he was saying, which was patently untrue. No one had a gun to his head. Part of his quote is below. I’m not going to do the rest of your homework for you, but his words are out there for all to see. Ps from The Independent, it was widely covered.

Regardless of whether he was paid or not, he willingly and foolishly said it. So much so that he admitted it and apologised for it. Let’s not try and rewrite history.

I don’t like The Sun & their lack of morals, but seems like an attempt at a present day rewrite. He actually apologised for saying it 12 years ago (direct quote below). Why, if it happened how he explained in the clip? Because he DID say it. It is still a no on trust for me.

Metrics appear based on current Teaching Excellence Framework (TEF). Again, glaring issues. My oldest is at a v well reputed RG uni, the teaching is passable, lecturers are more interested in doing their own research. Thanks to the need for unis to be seen to have good research for the REF & TEF

NAO claimed we are losing £billions in tax evasion from small businesses alone (est 81%). TPA state 40% of small business tax goes unpaid, costing Britain £15bn/year. Now, l’m all for a wealth tax, but let’s not forget about these guys. After all, tax evasion is just that no matter WHO does it 🤔

Dubious administration of said businesses too. Quote “In 2021 McMurdock transferred his shares in the (first) company to his mother and resigned as director.” I bet he did… too hot to handle 🤨. As I said earlier, he doesn’t just have skeletons in his closet, he has a full ossuary.

Did you read what I linked? Repost. Leveson 2 is nothing to do with politics or Starmer and his alleged red lines. Direct quote: “In essence, Leveson 1 addressed the internal workings of the press, while Leveson 2 aimed to explore the external relationship between the press and law enforcement.”

No. Two different things. So I disagree. Leveson 2 would do nothing to address press ethics or their relationship with politics and Govt reporting (which this post & Leveson 1 was about). Leveson 2 scope being police & press relations, so not relevant to this post or your red lines w Starmer. Below:

This Emma Reynolds? Either she’s had a job change from The Treasury, or you’re embarrassing yourselves… Honestly feels like we have to do the job of U.K. journos these days to a) get the facts straight b) find out about real news. 🙄
