Our only offensive spark-plug is glued to the bench because he can’t defend and rebound. Meanwhile, Brad hasn’t noticed that outside of Kylan Boswell and Brandon Lee, no one on this roster is playing like an above average defender or rebounder.

About as I expected — we don’t belong in the same arena as UConn right now. That’s not to say we can’t get there, but this group is nowhere close right now. #illini

I did think we got tremendous minutes from Brandon Lee defensively to end the first half. Talk about a dude who knows how to play tough through screens.

Shooting 30% from three this year as a team is not gonna cut it. If 2 more go down, it’s a respectable 2 possession deficit. We’ve had WIDE open looks, and UConn is burying shots with side-contests off ball screens. Have to be a better shooting team, full stop. #illini

UConn scored 2 points in the final 3 minutes, and we cut the 13 point deficit to an 11 point deficit.

Unfortunately, “getting good looks but not making any of them” feels like it may be more of the rule than the exception. And to be clear, I think we’ve actually run really good offense.

It’s really frustrating how poor the communication has been on defense and how easy we’re making it for UConn. I get it, the team hasn’t had that many full practices together, but at a certain point you can’t be this uncoordinated. Talk through every ball screen and switch — it’s not happening.

With all the off-ball actions UConn runs, it wouldn’t be a bad idea to mix in zone. We are committed to chasing through every ball screen, and eventually guys are getting loose, or we commit stupid fouls. #illini

The defense needs so much work. Way too many mistakes — blowing switches, slow to recover, fouling three point shooters, etc. UConn a comfortable 62% from the floor.
