The same magnet as last year? #Disneyworld
The Mickey Mouse Walty‘s world annual passholder magnet. It’s an image of Mickey coming out of a giant symbolic D with the words Walt Disney World, written on the left side of an annual passholder written underneath it.

Frederic Thompson built Mountain Torrent in 1906 — riders climbed an 80-ft mountain, raced through waterfalls, and splashed into a glacial lake. Coney Island was doing “immersive storytelling” long before Disney. www.imaginerding.com/2025/10/06/m...
Before Splash Mountain, There Was Mountain Torrent - ImagiNERDing
Mountain Torrent, Frederic Thompson’s 1906 Luna Park ride, mixed story, water, and thrills—showing Disney’s flumes began at Coney Island.

NYPL has it in their collection. Just easier to grab it from Gorilla’s Don’t blog. I’ve gone down a rabbit hole and have spent almost three hours reading articles from 1904-1908 gleaming details on the ride.

Decades before modern log flumes or water coasters, Mountain Torrent nailed the formula — scenic climb, twisting descent, and a huge splash finale. It’s wild to think that 1906 Luna Park paved the way for today’s “new” ideas in ride design.

In 1906, Luna Park’s Mountain Torrent mixed roller coaster thrills with a water ride twist. Guests climbed an 80-foot mountain covered in waterfalls, raced through rushing flumes, and splashed down into a glacial lake. Early theme park engineering at its boldest!

Yes. So many amazing Scenic Railroads that influenced Knott’s, Disneyland, and others. Specifically, Baxter was heavily influenced by Calico Mine Ride for them and design. (As was Walt, at the time.)

Also, people were amazed at the “bubbles” that floated up in front of the portholes. Very similar to DL’s version.

The submarine submerged under water into the 24-foot-deep pool it was housed in. The building was massive, covering 65,000 square feet. A total of three-and-one-half miles of canvas held on twenty-four spools showed all of the underwater scenes.

The finale revealed the aurora borealis shimmering above the frozen sea. Disney perfected these kinds of journeys, but 20,000 Leagues at Luna Park shows the magic of theme parks has always been built on imagination stacked across generations.

As the journey neared the North Pole, refrigeration blasted cold air. Icebergs appeared, polar bears were spotted in the distance — and riders were even given chips of ice to take home on hot summer days.

The illusion was stunning: sharks and schools of fish swam by, the Flying Dutchman appeared, and the sub rattled as engines groaned. At one point, the captain dropped the periscope just in time to avoid a passing ship.

Guests entered a Holland-class submarine replica, walked down a ramp, and faced wide portholes. The hatch slammed shut. Suddenly, they were “underwater,” surrounded by a moving panorama of sea life.

In 1904, Luna Park unveiled 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea. Long before Disneyland’s submarines, riders stepped into a full-sized sub and embarked on a mechanical undersea voyage toward the North Pole.

Did they ever mention why the windmill portion was on fire?

One of my favorite collectibles is this reproduction of the #DisneyWorld concept map that hung in the Contemporary and Polynesian resort rooms until the late 1970s. It is massive. It’s 5.5 feet wide and 4.5 feet tall.
A concept map of the Walt Disney World resort as imagined from the late 1960s. It hung in the rooms at the contemporary and Polynesian resorts until the late 1970s. It shows the magic kingdom, bay lake and seven seas lagoon, and all of the planned resorts. It’s done in a whimsical style reminiscent of the time.

Agreed. It was a spectacular sight. Although it did ruin a lot of wedding photos, I would imagine.
